Gaby is going to have a surgery first thing on Monday morning. She is having a nissin fundoplication procedure to help with her reflux. This procedure will do a lot of things with her stomach, but the most vital right now is that it will keep her from vomiting and losing calories that her body needs. It will help her stomach to digest the food from her GI tube in the stomach and out through her intestines, rather than up through her esophagus.
This will mean that she goes without food from Sunday until Tuesday when they begin reintroducing her feeds! Please pray for us during this time that we are able to keep her comfortable and calm. She is so cute even today, sucking on her pacifier and making that newborn "This isn't food! Are you kidding me?" noise. That natural, God-given ability to want something more in her tummy and mouth, even though for her 3 months of life she hasn't ever been fed by mouth!
They will want to observe her in the hospital for up to a week after surgery, so we have no idea what the week will bring as far as beginning our trek home to Indiana. We remain confident that she is where she needs to be and although we miss home terribly, we are thankful to be here with her. The doctors and nurses are amazed at how different she has been since we arrived and how much stronger she is getting every day. We are amazed as well, but because we know that God is making her stronger and helping her to know that we are here for her and love her with all our hearts. More tomorrow after the procedure...
What a little sweety. I hope the procedure goes smoothly and quickly and she can be back snuggling in your arms.
ReplyDeleteWill be praying for her in the morning!
